My Uncle John has always been very special to me. Even though he lived hundreds of miles away, whenever I spoke to him it felt like I had just seen him the day before. I always missed both him and my Auntie Norma and wished they lived nearer.
I never had a father figure growing up, so when me and my (now) husband decided to get married, there was only one person who I wanted to give me away, my Uncle John. I remember when I called to ask him if he would do me the honour on my big day. My Auntie Norma answered the phone because my Uncle John was up a ladder painting. She rushed off excited to get him and he was back in a flash to say he would be delighted to. I was so happy.
On my wedding day, on the 14th August 2008, my Uncle John looked so smart like he always did and had a big smile on his face. We shared a special moment just before he walked me down the aisle which I will never forget. I cannot express how proud and emotional I was walking down the aisle that day with my Uncle John holding my hand. Those precious memories will remain with me forever.
I am so proud to have called you my Uncle and if my son, Thomas John, turns out to be the great man you were Uncle John then I will be a very proud Mam.
Love and miss you always
Julie
