The gazebo

Can you have too many friends to help? Possibly, when the task is to construct a gazebo from seemingly 35000 parts. When the Wanderers grapevine heard that John and Norma had purchased a gazebo requiring "some assembly" many wanted to help. Despite the heat, John and Jim's protestations that the instruction manual should be read first, we all dived in and immediately started building. All was well until we came to the roof and one particular piece stubbornly refused to fit, preventing it's finishing. We scratched our heads as to how to make it fit, typically with creative "bodging" techniques such as extra drilled holes; use of large hammers etc. Egged on by the now "slightly frustrated" John, we reluctantly read the instruction manual and watched a video that John and Jim came up with on the iPad - sure enough, we had screwed up in our enthusiasm and it would be necessary to do some disassembly before being able to move forward again. John had done his usual very best to try to ensure that a good job was done and kindly Norma had ensured that we did not overdo things or lacked sustenance. We all enjoyed "helping" those two days - it was left to John and his son to finish it off properly. As usual, John was right .. But didn't rub it in ...
