Life Story for Peter D. R. Brown

Peter D. R. Brown
PETER D. R. BROWN
1941 – 2013
On November 20th our very dear husband, father, son, brother and friend died suddenly.
Peter will be forever missed by his wife, Heather, his children Christopher and Whitney and their mother Rita Brown, his mother Aileen Brown, his sisters Patti Stevenson and Laurie Dart along with their families and so many others whose lives he touched with his wit, his whisk and his wisdom. Peter was predeceased by his adored father, Douglas R. Brown.
A Graduate of McMaster University, with MBAs from York University and Centre d’Etudes Industrielles at the University of Geneva.
His wonderful life included a global corporate career in finance. He inherited his love of music and a commitment to the Arts from his parents, which he passed on to his children.
In 1963 at the age of 22 Peter performed in the first production of “The Mikado” at the Stratford Festival Theatre, while studying at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto under George Lambert.
Following this he was Treasurer of the Shaw Festival Theatre at its inception.
Peter was privileged and so enjoyed being a tenor with the London Symphony Orchestra Choir for 6 seasons under the direction of Andre Previn.
Other career achievements include senior management positions at Roy Thompson Hall, the Canada Council for the Arts and Harbourfront Centre. He also sat on the boards of several notable arts organizations.
Peter’s involvement with Artscape, a unique, not for profit organization that makes space for creativity and transforms communities was the culmination of his life-long commitment to the Arts.
Bella says: “It’s 20 minutes to Wapner, where are you?”
