Memories of Our Uncle Winston
Uncle, as he is affectionately known to his nephews (Chungsen, Karl, James & Keat) and niece (Chungyee) came into our lives in Taipei where he studied medicine at the National Taiwan University during the late 1950s and early 1960s. On his many visits to our family home, he would take time to teach us to: swim, ride a bicycle, use public transit, visit the zoo and explore the many interesting corners of Old Taipei. He also taught us how to care and to love a pet. Our family pet German Sheppards, Kito and Monroe were exceptionally obedient dogs providing our family with many years of playful companionship.
He introduced Karl, James and Keat to St. Andrew's College in Aurora and served as their mentor, guidance counsellor and guardian. He performed the same role throughout all of our university and post graduate years.
Uncle was a wonderful and attentative brother to our Mother after the untimely passing of our Father in 1983. After Father passed away, Uncle and Auntie often traveled and took cruise ship vacations together with Mother. His medical knowledge and advice were also very helpful to us as our Mother was being treated for cancer in 2002 & 2003. We also remember fondly our many summer BBQ and Christmas dinner spent at their residence in Victoria Square over the past four decades.
Uncle's quest for knowledge, compassion, humanitarian spirit and devotion to family will be missed by all of us. We extend our sincere condolences to: Auntie May, cousins Jason (Fiona) and Amy (Robert) and their extended families.
