BONATO, Paolo Giovanni - died in Niagara Falls, Ontario on February 19, 2011. Born in Fossalta Padovana, Italy on August 20, 1929 to a family of 9 children, he is predeceased by his parents Natalina and Antonio, as well as his brothers Francesco and Agostino. Above all else, Paolo was dedicated to his family. He was the much beloved husband and best friend to Anna Maria for 49 years, and loving father to his children Anthony and Lisa, as well their spouses Douglas and John-Paul. He was a devoted nonno to his two beloved grandchildren Justin and Jude, who brought him so much joy in the last years of his life. Paolo is predeceased by his daughter Paula, with whom he is now reunited. Paolo was a hard-working and self-made man. After working in the coal mines in Belgium, he immigrated to Canada in 1951. As an independent business owner in the Niagara region, he had a successful, multi-decade career in masonry construction and commercial properties. During his life, Paolo was a great supporter of higher education, and with his wife, endowed scholarships at McGill University, Ryerson University, and the University of Toronto. Paolo was a great lover of nature and farming and in his retirement could be found nurturing the many plants and trees in his garden. His family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Greater Niagara General Hospital (GNGH) who provided him with outstanding care in his final days.
