Margaret Amelie  Sharkey (Russell)
Sharkey, Margaret Amelie (nee Russell) – Passed away peacefully on August 28, 2014 at Upper Canada Lodge, where she enjoyed wonderful care in the last years of her life. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Wilfred (1986), son Peter (1999), daughters Mary and Margaret (1956) and son in law Bill Read (2006). Margaret was also predeceased by her brothers Herbert Russell, and twin brother Morris (Bill) Russell. Margaret will be remembered by her daughter in law Nicole Sharkey, sons Paul (Judy), Jim (Janice), Michael (Ruth-Ann), and daughter Cathy Read. Margaret will be missed by her 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Margaret was a dedicated business women holding many management roles, as well as owning her own business. However, it was her position with the Ministry of Tourism that sparked a desire for world travel. Her adventurous spirit took her to all corners of the earth. She finally settled on Vancouver Island where she enjoyed her retirement until returning to Niagara-on-the-Lake in 2008. Thank you to all the staff at Upper Canada Lodge for the wonderful care. A special thank you to Thelma, Joanne, Magda and Jay. The attention and love that you showed Margaret offered her great comfort in her difficult struggle with dementia. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Margaret’s life will take place at St Vincent de Paul Church in Niagara on the Lake on Friday September 12th at 1:00am. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to “The Walker Family Cancer Centre”.
