Life Story for Louis Scott Rivett

Louis Scott Rivett
RIVETT, Louis Scott
Feb. 26, 1913- Feb. 11, 2014
In his 101st year Louis passed over into eternity at St. Catharines Hospital. Louis was predeceased by his wife Alice in 2001. Louis is the loving father of Scott and his wife Joan of Niagara on the Lake. Louis is also deeply loved by his grandsons Stephen and his wife Naynaz of Deep River, Ontario and Matthew and his wife Elizabeth (Liz) of Worcester, Pennsylvania. Also his great granddaughter, Carolyn Elizabeth of Worcester. He is also remembered by his niece Barbara Morton of Cleveland, Ohio. Louis was born in the Northern Ontario town of Haileybury a few years after the height of the Cobalt silver rush. His father Edward Scott Johnson Rivett was employed at a power plant as an electrical engineer and his mother, Winifred Clara Chinn, was an elementary school teacher. Louis spent most of his working career as a metallurgist at the concentrator/smelting plants in Falconbridge, Ontario in supervisory and management positions. At the end of his career at Falconbridge, he was instrumental in planning and bringing to completion a new smelting plant which greatly reduced the emission of sulphur dioxide into the environment. Following retirement in 1978, Louis became Senior Metallurgist with a consulting company on contract to interests in Yugoslavia where a ferro-nickel smelter was to be built. Louis and his wife Alice moved to NOTL in 1978.
