TORGIS, Lawrence H. (Laurie) - After a short illness, surrounded by his family, on April 18, 2009 at Toronto Western Hospital in his 84th year. Cherished and devoted husband of Marion (nee Speed) for 61 years. Loving father of Gary (Sandra Morris) and Sharon (Dante Antidormi). Proud grandfather of Amanda, Christopher and Ashley (Torgis), and Anthony and Nicole (Antidormi). Dear brother of Margaret (Jack Pierson). He will be missed by his nieces, Cathy (Randy Nealon), Laurie Jane (Mark Pettes) and nephew John Pierson (Andrea) and their families.
Laurie had an early love of flying, soloing at 14, was an avid photographer and sailor and a member of the Boulevard Club. He spent many happy years at the family cottage he built on Whitefish Lake in Muskoka. Laurie managed the family business as President of Torgis & Son Ltd. He loved his retirement in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
A private memorial service for Laurie was held through the Niagara-on-the-Lake Chapel of the Morgan Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
