Life Story for Ian Andrew Bongard

Ian Andrew Bongard
BONGARD, Ian Andrew - Ian died peacefully, on Monday November 23, 2015, in the arms of his family. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Nancy (nee Turville) for over 59 years. Deeply loved father of Rob and Trish, and her husband John Godfrey, and the adored grandfather of Ian Godfrey. Predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and Gordon Bongard. Survived by his brothers Gordon and Blair, first cousins Strachan Bongard and Elsie Falconer, all of Toronto. Lovingly remembered by Mary Ann and George Simpson, Bill and Sharon Turville and many nieces and nephews. Ian was born on May 25, 1928, in Toronto. He was a graduate of University of Toronto Schools, Royal Military College, Kingston, and the University of Toronto and earned his degrees in Civil Engineering. He worked in the investment business his grandfather started, Bongard, Leslie. Ian was a sailor, an athlete, and a sportsman and an early member of the Osler Bluff Ski Club, where he enjoyed skiing into his 81st year. The log cabin he and Nancy built ensured many years of fun and family memories. Ian was a gentleman and most importantly, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family in Toronto and Niagara on the Lake, where Ian and Nancy made their home for 35 years. Our family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Upper Canada Lodge, who were kind, caring and compassionate for the past 26 months, and exemplify what is great about our public health services.
A service will be held at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, 41 Byron Street, Niagara on the Lake, on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mark’s Anglican Church, or to Upper Canada Lodge Long Term Care Home, PO Box 1390, 272 Wellington Street, Niagara on the Lake, L0S 1J0 would be greatly appreciated.
