Life Story for Barbara Jean Tranter (Bradt)

TRANTER, Barbara Jean (nee Bradt)
Passed away on Friday, January 28, 2011 at the St. Catharines General Hospital, in her 89th year. Beloved wife of Dr. Roy Tranter for 66 short years. Loving mother to Judy Pickthall (Colin), Barbara Tranter Brown (Paul), Timothy (Pat), Mary and the late James (2005). Adoring grandmother to Alisoun, Jennifer, Gillian, Greg and Samuel. Barbara was born on June 10, 1922 in Niagara-on -the-Lake and continued to live there and give back to the town throughout her life. She attended MacDonald Hall in Guelph after graduating from grade thirteen at Niagara High School at the age of sixteen. Returning to university in her fifties, she earned a degree in Psychology. During her career she worked as the dietician at The Niagara Hospital and later at St. Joseph’s hospital in Chatham. She was one of the charter directors of The Shaw Festival and served on the Board of the Niagara Hospital. Barbara was a woman of many talents and a sharp wit. Her life was filled with family, friends and bridge with Roy. She will be sorely missed by all. The family will receive friends at Morgan Funeral Home, 415 Regent Street on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Simcoe Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake, on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 11 a.m. Burial to follow in the church cemetery.
