Dear Christine and Alex, I am so saddened to know that my longest friend is no longer with us and I send you my very deepest sympathy. Mary Elizabeth and I were friends in Port Cartier, QC growing up and we sure had fun getting into trouble; crazy camping trips, biking to Sept Isles all with loads of giggling and laughing. She and I both ended up working in Schefferville, QC which was a thriving company town in the early 60's. Over the years we went our separate ways but always stayed in touch. My husband and I drove to San Francisco from Vancouver to meet little Alexander when you lived there. Every time we got together we just continued where we left off having more fun. Shortly after M.E. had the news of her diagnosis, she came to Calgary and we went out to lunch to the best restaurant in town. At that point she was still so hopeful the medical team would find a cure, as we all were. On Dec. 20th, 2015 following a morning talk with Christine, I called back in the afternoon and was amazed at how talkative and lucid M.E. sounded. We talked for over 15 minutes and I treasure those minutes dearly! Alex, Christine and all the rest of the family have lost a wonderfully supportive and loving mother. The rest of us will miss her infectious laughter, lovely smile and willingness to live life to the fullest. A great lesson to us all!! Very sincerely, Phyllis
