Obituary for Richard Norman Howard

HOWARD, Richard Norman
After being diagnosed with an untreatable form of brain cancer, Richard passed away peacefully at Hamilton General Hospital on October 26th, 2020. His spouse David Johnson and two close friends were holding Richard’s hand as he quietly ended his short but brave fight with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM).
In addition to his spouse David, Richard is also survived by three nieces - Heather, Kathleen and Jessica - and his beloved beagle Bogart.
Richard enjoyed long careers in the Canadian Diplomatic Service and Ontario’s Economic Development department, finally settling in Niagara-on-the-Lake in 2011. There he and David operated a B&B for a number of years during the summer months, travelling abroad extensively in winter. Everywhere he went, Richard made many friends across Canada and around the world. It would be a fitting tribute to him if anyone reading this obituary would be kind enough to pass it on to others who had the privilege of working with him or knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre would be appreciated.
As per Richard’s wishes, and in view of current COVID-19 restrictions, no formal funeral service is planned.
