Life Story for Norman Leslie Sheil

Norman Leslie  Sheil
SHEIL, Norman Leslie - Peacefully, on October 25, 2018 at Upper Canada Lodge, Niagara-on-the-Lake at the age of 86. Dearly loved husband of Rachel. Loving father of Martin (Vivienne) of Nottingham, England. Beloved grandfather of Harry, Ben and Jessica. Survived by brothers Ronald (Cathy) and William “Billy.” He will be remembered by many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sister Joan and brother Eric.
Norman was a retired track-racing cyclist, winning world pursuit championships for Britain in 1955 and 1958. He rode the Tour de France in 1960, and he was a national cycling coach in Britain and Canada, and a track coach in the U.S. In 1998, as a Canadian athlete, Norman returned to competition to win the 65+ gold medal for the points race and a silver medal for individual pursuit at the Manchester track in England.
Cremation has taken place. Norman’s family will receive friends at Morgan Funeral Home, 415 Regent Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake on Friday, November 9th from 11-12 pm with a memorial service following immediately in the chapel at 12 o’clock.
