Michael Gerard Vriens - Michael passed peacefully, surrounded by family, at Hospice Niagara on July 27th after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Life-long resident and lover of Niagara on the Lake, Michael was also a proud employee of the Town of Niagara on the Lake for 35 years, and a dedicated Firefighter for 34 years, attaining the rank of Captain.
Michael will be greatly missed by his family; daughter Riah and partner Ryan, brother Gary and his wife Nancy, sister Corinne and her husband Dieter, brother John and his wife Susan, Carol and her son Kevin. Ashley, Steve, Brandon, Nicole, Matthew, Kayla, Jonathan, Cassandra, Kyle, Noah, Westin, and Hannah will remember Uncle Michael fondly. His large extended family will miss him dearly.
Michael is also honored by many friends and fellow firefighters, in memory of a lifetime of friendship and service in the town he loved so much.
Michael’s friends and family in the Netherlands mourn his loss and send their love and condolences to the grieving family and friends in Canada.
Michael was always the first to be there for anyone in need.
Special thanks to the many health care workers that helped Michael deal with his illness for almost 7 years.
