Obituary for Michael John Stanko
STANKO, Michael John – After a long difficult journey with major health issues, Mike passed away peacefully in his sleep on Palm Sunday April 14, 2019 in Niagara on the Lake. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Jean (nee Burnett), daughter Alicia (Phil, Quinton and Carson) of Uxbridge and son Matthew (Ed) of Toronto.
Mike was born October 20, 1946 in Fort Erie, later the family moved to Thorold. Predeceased by his father Mike Sr. 1999, mother Mary 1964, step mother Kitty in 2008 and sister Carole 1991. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be greatly missed by all.
He graduated from New York State at Buffalo University with Bachelor of Political Science. He worked many different jobs finishing at GM in 2002.
His main hobby was reading newspapers, magazines, and books – he loved Chapters. Mike was also greatly involved in the N.D.P.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Morgan Funeral home, Niagara on the Lake. Cremation has taken place with a private interment.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Chartwell Niagara for their great services. Also, Diana and Dr. Brenner. We would also like to thank Dr. Tim Tatzel, Thorold Medical Clinic for trying so hard to keep him on track with his diabetes. Those who wish to make a memorial donation to the Lincoln County Humane Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.
