Obituary for Johann Alois "John" Heim

HEIM, Johann (John) Alois – Passed away of natural causes on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital at the age of 86. Beloved husband of Judy (nee Rouse) of 45 years and cherished father of Jennifer (Darren) of Banff, Alberta. Dearly loved brother of Eduard Heim, Berta (Franz) Suter, and Marie-Theres Heim of Küssnacht am Rigi, Switzerland. Predeceased by brothers Ernst and Beatus. Fondly remembered by in-laws Gloria Harwood and Dan Rezner as well as by his nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours, and dear friends.
John became a certified boat builder in Switzerland in 1953 where he worked for Swiss Craft Faul Horgen before immigrating to Canada in 1958 first working at Delaney Boat Lines in Barrie. He became a Canadian citizen in 1963 and moved to the Niagara Region around 1965 where he continued his career at Shepherd Boats, Hinterhoeller Yachts, and C&C Yachts. After retiring John took up golf and was a member of the Niagara Seniors Golf Association for a few years.
John taught us to enjoy the simple pleasures in life from Sunday family dinners, skyping with loved ones, walks or bike rides around the neighbourhood, working in the yard and taking time to enjoy the sunshine. He was generous with his fix-it abilities and tools with family and neighbours, and enjoyed learning what people were up to. He could be silly and kooky, and it was extremely rare for him to ever get angry or even raise his voice.
John’s authenticity and quiet contentment will not be forgotten.
Due to covid restrictions, a private family service with cremation followed by interment at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church will take place.
