Obituary for Jean Grieve (McLachlan)

GRIEVE, Jean – passed away peacefully at home with her loving family at her side on Friday July 29, 2022 at the age of 95. Beloved wife of John Grieve for 68 years. Loving mother of Ian Grieve, Peter (Tess) Grieve, Jennifer Oksman and Lindsey (Ted) Bellinger. Caring grandmother of Lesley, Robert, Olivia, Keven and Deirdre. Dear great-grandmother of Raylan and Isabella. Greatly missed by her sisters Jessie McMillan and Moira Levy. Fondly remembered by her niece Morag and nephew Ian. Predeceased by her parents Thomas and Jessie McLachlan. Jean immigrated to Canada in 1951 to work for the National Research Council in Ottawa where she met the love of her life John. John and Jean married in 1953 at St. Michael’s Cathedral in Toronto. They lived in Ottawa, Winnipeg and Toronto while John served in the RCAF. In retirement Jean and John moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake in 1999 where she was member of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Lawn Bowling Club and volunteered with the Niagara Distress Centre and Meals on Wheels. She will be lovingly remembered by her family as a devoted mother and homemaker who loved to travel with John. Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass will take place at 1:30 pm on Friday August 5, 2022 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 73 Picton Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake. Interment will follow at Niagara Lakeshore Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to MORGAN FUNERAL HOME, 415 Regent Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake. In keeping with Jean’s avid support of numerous charities throughout her life, those who wish may make a memorial donation to a charity of one’s choice in lieu of flowers.
