SNIDER, George H. – Peacefully at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Friday July 25, 2014, George Herman Snider of Virgil, 93 years of age. Beloved husband of Mary (Haines) for 68 years. Loving father of Betty, Allen (Susan) and Douglas (So So) Snider. Grandfather of Megan (Trevor) Jack, Lindsay and Richard Snider. Step-grandfather of Jessica, Chelsea and Ashley Clark. Grandfather of Kevin and Sachiko Ng, Si Si and Ting Wong. Great-grandfather of Vanin and Reese Jack, Yuana Ng and Mya, Tristan and Travis Wong. George was predeceased by his only brother Arthur, and is survived by sisters-in-law Eleanor Snider and Ruth Wendorf (the late Verd), and nieces and nephews. A member and honourary elder of Grace United Church and very active member of the St. Davids Lions Club for the last 35 years. He joined the Canadian Army in 1941 and served in Europe until the war ended in 1945. He received the great honour of representing his regiment, The Royal Regiment of Canada, at the 60th anniversary of Normandy in 2004. He was a supervisor at General Motors, retiring in 1976 after 30 years of service. After retirement he worked for Morse & Son/Morgan Funeral Homes for the next 25 years. The family will receive friends at MORGAN FUNERAL HOME, 415 Regent Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A service under the auspices of the St. Davids Lions Club will be held at 6:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Grace United Church Thursday at 11 a.m. Private interment will follow. As an expression of sympathy, donations to Grace United Church Memorial Fund would be appreciated.
