Obituary for Gabriele Colicchia
COLICCHIA, Gabriele- It is with great sadness that the family of Gabriele Colicchia announces his passing, in his 100th year, on Saturday, July 29, 2023.
Gabriele was the beloved husband of Ernesta Sellan and dear Father of Frank (Paula). Dearest Nonno of Danielle (Jason van Veghel-Wood) and Jennifer, and adored Bisnonno of Benjamin van Veghel-Wood. Brother of Donato and Ersilia Del Zotto (the late Aldo). Gabriele is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Canada, Italy and Argentina.
Gabriele came to Canada from Penne, Italy in 1951, preparing for the arrival of Ernesta and Frank. Eventually, Gabriele established Colicchia Construction, building houses in Toronto’s west end, Scarborough and Durham Region.
In 1970, Gabriele and Ernesta moved to Paddock Road in Greenwood, where they lived for over 50 years.
In 2022, Gabriele and Ernesta moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake to be closer to family and to begin a whole new adventure.
Gabriele was an avid hunter, enjoying many outings to “the Bush” with friends and family.
He was also and enthusiastic Bocce Player, belonging to many teams over the years and travelling as far away as Brazil to enjoy the tournaments.
From the early 1960s until the mid-2000s, Gabriele and Ernesta travelled to their beloved Acapulco for their annual winter vacation. Gabriele also organized these Acapulco trips for many friends from across Canada.
Gabriele never lost his love of gardening or of a good card game, but most of all, nothing was more important to him than spending time with family!
Gabriele is resting at Morgan Funeral Home, 415 Regent Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake, where his family will receive friends on Thursday, August 3rd from 10-12 pm, with a funeral service following immediately at 12 noon. Cremation to follow.
