Obituary for Charles Andrew Butt

BUTT, Charles - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Charles Andrew Butt on Tuesday November 8th, 2022 at the age of 71.

Charles was a deeply loved husband, father, friend, and colleague. For those that knew him well he was a gregarious spirit, but it was his infectious laugh that made him memorable. And while he may not have been a man with extensive hobbies, what he did love, he loved with vigor – family, food, baseball, soccer, and travel.

He was energized by the finer details of his favorite things. The stitching on a leather shoe, the telling of a good joke, the perfect placement of a strike-out pitch. Charles appreciated life in his own measured way. Always watching. Always listening. A nod and a smirk whenever he approved.

Born in Chesterfield, England in 1951, Charles came from a big family in a small community. The households of his relatives were full of lively characters with indelible personalities, and it was in this market town in Derbyshire that Charles developed his sense of humor, his craving for a Sunday roast, and the ambition to explore beyond the U.K.

As a professional and executive, Charles’s 35-year career brought him to all corners of the globe. Starting in London before moving to the United States and eventually settling in Canada, Charles was fortunate to have spent extended time working around Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. And throughout his life, he worked tirelessly to extend the love of travel to his family.

He gave great pleasure in sharing what brought him joy or enabling the joy of others. And it was easy to feel joy around Charles. He loved people and people loved him.

Charles and his wife Allyson moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake from Toronto in 2018. They have loved being in the region with its rich history and beautiful landscapes.

For the last two years of his life, Charles dealt with the challenges of Multiple Myeloma as well as complications of Ankylosing Spondylitis, an inflammatory disease he had been living with for the better part of his life. And while the disease took a toll on him physically and mentally, his charm and warm smile persisted.

He leaves behind Allyson, his wife of 41 years, sons Alex and Sebastian, and brother, William. They will miss him dearly.

A funeral service will take place at 1pm on Friday November 18, 2022 at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Niagara-on-the-Lake. Those who wish may make a memorial donation to Myeloma Canada. Arrangements entrusted to MORGAN FUNERAL HOME, 415 Regent Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake. Memories, photos, and condolences may be shared at www.morganfuneral.com
