Life Story for Capt. Barrie Edward Mathews

MATHEWS, Barrie Edward – It is with deep sadness that the family of Capt. Barrie Mathews announces his passing on August 23, 2014 at St. Catharines General Hospital. Barrie is survived by his loving wife Mary, proud sons David and Neil, doting daughters-in-law Elizabeth and Lindsay, and his adored grandchildren Emily and Benjamin. He will be missed by family members in England and his many friends and associates in the marine shipping industry in Canada, the United States and Europe. Known for his strength of character and selflessness, Barrie touched the lives of many people and was greatly respected for his dedication to his family, friends and community. Cremation has taken place in accordance with his wishes. Barrie’s family will receive friends at the MORGAN FUNERAL HOME, at 415 Regent Street in Niagara-on-the-Lake on Tuesday, September 2 from 2 to 4 pm. A short service remembering Barrie and his life will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. His family offers special thanks to his doctors and nurses in London, Hamilton and the Niagara Region.
