Life Story for Dr. Roy Augustus Tranter

TRANTER, Dr. Roy - Our Dad, Roy Augustus Tranter, was born on January 24th 1921 in Niagara Falls. His Mum was Scottish, a Murdoch, and his Dad English, born in Gravesend, England. He spent his boyhood in Niagara-on-the Lake, attending Niagara Public School and High School, where he met his wife to be, Barbara, who he affectionately referred to as “his bride” for the rest of their lives together.
In his High School Year Book, he recorded he wanted to become a Dentist in Niagara-on-the Lake. Following a year working in the mines in Cobalt, he attended the University of Toronto Dental School. He opened a dentist’s office in town and he and Barbara raised five children. Through his practice he got to know many people of the town and made many lifelong friends.
First and foremost for Roy was his pride in his family, to whom he was always very close. His five grandchildren gave him immense pleasure, and he would have been very proud to have met his one year old great grandchild, Noah.
Roy is much missed by his children, Judy, Barbie, Tim and Mary, and in turn he much missed his son Jim. His grandchildren, Alisoun, Jennifer, Gillian, Greg, and Sam will miss his affection and the interest he took in their lives.
Roy’s family will receive friends at MORGAN FUNERAL HOME 415 Regent Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake, on Friday May 9th from 7-9 p.m. A service to celebrate his life will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 323 Simcoe Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake on Saturday morning at 11 o’clock. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Niagara-on-the-Lake Hospital Foundation.
