Life Story for Hugh Roderick Farrell

Hugh Roderick Farrell
HUGH RODERICK FARRELL: May 29, 1927 – March 15, 2017
With profound sadness, Hugh Farrell’s family announces his passing, peacefully in a Miami hospital, after just beginning a Caribbean cruise.
He is deeply mourned by his wife and love of his life for 40 plus years, Donna M. Scott O.C., three sons by his first marriage, Rodney (Peterborough), Steven and Gregory (Toronto), four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his eldest son Shane.
Born in Cape Breton, Hugh grew up in Sydney Mines, son of the late Joseph and Mary Anna Farrell. He was the last survivor of nine siblings.
After St. Francis Xavier University, Hugh became a pilot in the RCAF. His favourite posting was Gimli, Manitoba where the glorious prairie sunshine provided many excellent flying hours.
A subsequent lengthy and successful labour relations career took him and his family to Quebec’s Donnacona paper mill (where he also enjoyed founding the first Boy Scouts program in Quebec), The Montreal Gazette, and the Metropolitan Toronto School Board. He then established his own labour relations consulting firm.
Hugh and Donna moved from Toronto to Niagara on the Lake in the early 90s. He thoroughly enjoyed life there. He was a Past Master of the Toronto Masonic Lodge (Ionic Lodge #25) G.R.C., a member of the Niagara Masonic Lodge No. 2, AF&AM and a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Military Institute.
A service will be held on Saturday, April 29, at 2 p.m. in St. Mark’s Anglican Church, 41 Byron Street, Niagara on the Lake. Memorial donations may be made to Willowbank (willowbank@willowbank.ca) or to Friends of Laura Secord (www.friendsoflaurasecord.com).

The kindest, happiest, funniest man has gone but will not be forgotten.
